Plinio Nomellini - Sinfonia della Luna - Symphony of the Moon

PLINIO NOMELLINI

SINFONIA DELLA LUNA [SYMPHONY OF THE MOON]

1899

OIL ON CANVAS

I happened upon this deeply beautiful blue tetraptych entitled Sinfonia della Luna [Symphony of the Moon] at Venice's Ca' Pesaro Gallery today. It is a thoroughly Art Nouveau work, and at seems to be influenced by Alphonse Mucha's frontal portraiture, and contains overtly Symbolist scenes where figures appear to grapple with their mortality.

Plinio Nomellini really succeeded at capturing the Beauty and mystery of moonlit nights with these sea and skyscapes which evoke a feeling of calm but also the terror of the unseen.

I felt myself really wanting to enter the paintings.
