Doll Tor

Doll Tor, or Dol Tor, is a small but beautiful stone circle on Stanton Moor in England's Peak District (Pennines) - not far from Nine Ladies stone circle. It has a wonderful atmosphere. It feels isolated altough it's not hard to access by traversing grazing fields from the nearby road.

On the way to it we passed the Andle Stone which has foot grips carved into it to facilitate climbing, as well as an inscription to Field Marshall Duke of Wellington and William Thornhill.

After we visited the Doll Tor stone circle, which is hidden in a copse, we walked over to see the ruin of an old stone barn - which was also very atmospheric. It was a windy overcast July day - typical of the British summer - which leant itself well to the magical, otherworldly ambience of the place. We were the only people there so it was really a beautiful experience.
