Vinci: The Birthplace of Leonardo and The da Vinci Museum in Tuscany

Vinci is a small hill town in Tuscany halfway between Florence and Pisa. It is the home of Leonardo da Vinci whence was derived his name. It features a number of Leonardo related museums and locations including the house he was born in, several museums dedicated to his work, and the church where he was baptized.

The walk up to his birthplace from Vinci town center is a beautiful pilgrimage through ascending olive groves (pictured below). But what I found most striking were the vistas across the Tuscan plains, which look just like the sfumato employed by da Vinci in his paintings.

A fantastic collection of his inventions have been recreated and are on display in the Leonardo Museum.
